Portmouth, NH
September 1-5, 2014
During our four days together, we write from prompts designed to awaken creativity you didn't even know you had. We write by candlelight in a stone chapel. We write in rattan rockers on a wraparound porch. We write with a view of the ocean in all directions. We write with the sound of waves and gulls. We pick up writing techniques from other writers, from the 50-page book prepared by the presenter, and from the presenter's personal experience.

It’s in this creative soup that new books emerge, old books are sorted out, and everyone has psychic revelations for everyone else. And, most importantly, it’s WORKING…
Carmel gals are getting big agents and book deals — THREE book deals with fantastic publishers in just the month of December (2012) alone!

In Carmel you breathe life into your book proposal, novel, memoir, non-fiction business or self-help book… whatever’s whispering (or yelling) in your ear for time and loving attention. Come with merely a few ideas or a belly full of them, nothing but a title and a gut feeling to just get started, or two full manuscripts. It all works. Shortcut your process from the start of your writing process before you’ve done much if any work, or infuse a tried and true discipline for writing with new energy.

A Five Day Writing Retreat with Emily Hanlon
May 6-11, 2014
Pendle Hill Retreat Center, Wallingford, PA, USA
image for workshop Join us for five days of writing, creativity, gorgeous surroundings, fantastic food and community at its best!
Lots of changes in the 2014 Spring Writing Retreat. The expansion to five days gives us time to immerse ourselves in our writing, whether is be something you are already working on, or characters and story that come up during the retreat — or both.
During past Spring Writing Weekends, we have had a multitude of assignments geared to writing first drafts. This year, the emphasis will be on developing longer pieces through writing second and even third drafts. We will have plenty of time to share rewritten pieces, which is a fascinating aspect of the writing process.
Rewriting takes us more and more deeply into our own creative unconscious and allows characters and plot to rise up and take us by surprise!
The writing retreat is for writers of all levels. If you have been to any of Emily's past workshops, this workshop will build on and deepen the work you have done as well as bring the first-timer into the magical world of the imagination!
